Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) is a specialty of medicine and dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and management of diseases and disorders of the face and jaws. Our faculty are trained to treat trauma, congenital and acquired defects and disorders, facial infections, cancers of the head and neck region. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery provides diagnosis and treatment of Maxillofacial Pathologies, trauma and aesthetic facial surgery apart from tooth extractions of both simple as well as complex varieties. The Department of Oral Implantology and LASER Applications further provides specialized training in the field of Dental Implants and LASERS in Maxillofacial Surgery.
We offer training to Under Graduate students to students from III Year and IV (Final) Year of B.D.S, Post Graduate training. The Department now further, is a centre for training to Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in the subject of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offered under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, under the guidance of Prof.Dr.Prashanth N.T, Head of Department of Maxillofacial Surgery and a certified PhD Guide.
Located in the First floor of our Dental College Hospital Building with a capacity of over 19 equipped Dental Chairs and a fully functional Operating Table, the department is spread over 6640 square meters of floor space with designated training areas for Under Graduates and Post Graduate students. The Department further boasts its own Minor Operating room facility for procedures that may be performed in-house. Apart from the clinical area, the department also has its own Seminar Room and Post Graduate Library for the benefit of students being trained.
For all cases requiring specialized care under General Anaesthesia, the Department operates at the Operation Theatres at Sagar Hospital, Banashankari with an excellent Team of Anaesthesiologists, Medical and Para-Medical Staff as well as at Dr. Chandramma Dayananda Sagar Institute of Medical Education and Research, Harohalli, Kanakapura as well as in a fully equipped Minor Operation theatre at the college campus.
