Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) is a specialty of medicine and dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and management of diseases and disorders of the face and jaws. Our faculty are trained to treat trauma, congenital and acquired defects and disorders, facial infections, cancers of the head and neck region. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery provides diagnosis and treatment of Maxillofacial Pathologies, trauma and aesthetic facial surgery apart from tooth extractions of both simple as well as complex varieties. The Department of Oral Implantology and LASER Applications further provides specialized training in the field of Dental Implants and LASERS in Maxillofacial Surgery.

We offer training to Under Graduate students to students from III Year and IV (Final) Year of B.D.S, Post Graduate training. The Department now further, is a centre for training to Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in the subject of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offered under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, under the guidance of Prof.Dr.Prashanth N.T, Head of Department of Maxillofacial Surgery and a certified PhD Guide.

Located in the First floor of our Dental College Hospital Building with a capacity of over 19 equipped Dental Chairs and a fully functional Operating Table, the department is spread over 6640 square meters of floor space with designated training areas for Under Graduates and Post Graduate students. The Department further boasts its own Minor Operating room facility for procedures that may be performed in-house. Apart from the clinical area, the department also has its own Seminar Room and Post Graduate Library for the benefit of students being trained.

For all cases requiring specialized care under General Anaesthesia, the Department operates at the Operation Theatres at Sagar Hospital, Banashankari with an excellent Team of Anaesthesiologists, Medical and Para-Medical Staff as well as at Dr. Chandramma Dayananda Sagar Institute of Medical Education and Research, Harohalli, Kanakapura as well as in a fully equipped Minor Operation theatre at the college campus.

Department Uniqueness:

  • Ours is the only department that offers Surgical Management of various Oro-facial disorders/Infections/ conditions and are done in association with Sagar Hospitals, Banashankari within our campus and at a rural set up at CDSIMER Hospital, Harohalli as well as in house Minor Surgery Operating facilities.
  • The Department further offers Post-Doctoral training (PhD) in the Specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the course is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
  • The Department also caters to an Annual Comprehensive Implant workshop organized and conducted by the Department to train under graduate and post graduate students in the field of Implant Dentistry, inviting an elite group of top notch clinicians as Guest/ Invited Speakers in Implantology.
  • The Post Graduate Program is supported by prestigious institutions with whom we have tie-ups for further training in the field of Maxillofacial Surgery, Cleft Surgery, Facial Aesthetic Surgery, Oral Onco Surgery to name a few.
  • Our Post Graduates are encouraged on honing their clinical skills under direct supervision of the Clinical Faculty and are amply prepared to face all real-world scenarios while managing Maxillofacial Surgeries.
  • The Department conducts Basic Life Support (BLS) Course in association with JeevaRaksha Unit of the RGUHS on an annual basis for all Interns and Post Graduates of DSCDS
  • The Department also conducts a webinar/ On-site seminar on Medico-Legal Aspects in Dentistry with invited faculty specialized in Law for the benefit of our Interns and all Post Graduates from DSCDS
  • With dedicated and enthusiastic faculty, the Department continues its commitment to our Students by exemplary teaching methods and training that includes Pre-Clinical as well as Clinical training and to our patients by providing the best possible surgical care that can be addressed to at our college campus as well as in our Hospitals where the team operates.
