The Dayananda Sagar College of Dental Sciences and its management strongly believe in giving back to society in humble ways with our several programs directed for the benefit of the General public and society at large.

We truly enhance the reach of Dental Care services to areas which are deprived of such services by having affiliations with NGOs or by a Direct Outreach program to various locations across the state of Karnataka and also a few locations in the country as well.

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Dayananda Sagar College of Dental Sciences, is and has been actively associated with various health initiatives, social activities, rural health programs and school dental health programs, to name a few.

HEALTH INITIATIVES


WHO Rallies
To create awareness and knowledge about theme based WHO program by conducting seminars and lectures and promoting health in general and oral health in particular.

Cancer Awareness and Tobacco cessation
In association with the Karnataka Cancer Society (KCS) the college actively participates in all awareness rallies related to Cancer awareness and Tobacco cessation. The ill effects of tobacco usage and its prevention was stressed upon by conducting a series of lectures and cessation programs among rural-urban masses including schools. The college also participates in poster competitions held annually by the KCS. This year the World No Tobacco Day was observed by conducting a mega awareness rally from Banashanakari bus stand to the college campus

Oral Hygiene Day
Every year Oral Hygiene Day is observed on August 1st.The college was awarded the Best Tableau for the Oral Hygiene rally held in 2013.

Blood Donation Camps
The college in association with various NGO's such as Lions club, Rotary along the Red Cross Society conducts blood donation camps annually within the campus.

Women's Day
Gender equality is given utmost importance at DSCDS and the institution celebrates Women's Day every year and organizes programs with impactful orations on gender equality, women's oral health and tips on having a good oral hygiene.

World Anti-Aids Day
December 1st of every year is celebrated as the World Anti Aids Day. The college is involved in distribution of health education materials regarding AIDS as well as in distributing red ribbons to the public as a mark of awareness.

Oral Health Day

Oral health is the gateway to general health. A flash mob and rally were organized in association with the NSS unit and the National Medicos Organization to create awareness about the importance of oral health

Covid Care Centre duties and Felicitations

Tele triaging was done in association with an NGO called Project Step One. The faculty and students volunteered for providing tele triaging services. Interns and post graduate students were posted to provide services at covid care center. The services were felicitated by the local government.

Differently-abled friendly campus The institution supports the differently abled and as an initiative the health education pamphlets on oral hygiene instructions, adverse effects of tobacco, post extraction instructions and also the outpatient registration card have been printed in the Braille format. It was done in association with Mathruchaya trust which is a nonprofit organization. The health education videos have also been made in sign language for the better understanding of the specially abled.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Social activities are the core of Department of Public Health Dentistry in Dayananda Sagar College of Dental Sciences. Our normal schedule is complemented and enriched by a series of extension activities aimed at serving the needy who are not in the reach of oral health care facilities. This gives us a satisfaction of fulfilling our moral responsibilities towards the society by caring for the uncared and the needy.

In this regard various activities such as free denture camps have been conducted at Ponnampet Ashram, Coorg and Mandya medical college, Mandya.
Free treatment camps are being conducted on a regular annual basis at the Malle Mahadeshwara Hills where tribal children were benefitted with treatment.  About 2000 children were provided with plates and tumblers for their Mid day Meals. Oral health kits were provided to 3000 children and about 150 metal trunks were donated to the tribal children living in the ashram for storage purposes.

A rally was conducted at Freedom Park, Bangalore to lobby the government to reduce taxes on dental products so as to make it easily accessible to the lower socio-economic class.

The institution also has Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abhalashrama, an NGO where interns and post graduates are posted on rotation in the dental clinic


World Environment Day

The institution organized a cyclathon to create awareness regarding importance of keeping our environment clean and reduce our individual carbon foot print. The institution in association with the Karnataka Forest Department organized a plastic clearance program at Thurahalli Forest tree park themed “Solutions to plastic pollution’ and retrieved about 30kg of plastic waste.

Tree Sapling plantation
Tree sapling plantation was organized on the occasion of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa jayanthi where 40 tree saplings were planted in the Yelechenahalli metro station premises.

Rural Oral Health Programs-Add pics

Along with NGO's with Sai Sparshan, Lions Club, Lioness Club, Rotary,etc the college conducts various oral health care programs stretching throughout South India.
To name a few camps are Kodlipet and Ponnampet in Coorg, Pakkala in Andhra Pradesh, Srinivasapura in Kolar, Wayanad in Kerala and various camps in Bangalore – Mysore belt. In association with NGOs like Sewa Bharathi and Arogya Bharathi the institution conducted screening and treatment camps at Hiriyur, Banashankari, Chamrajnagar and Sira.

SATELLITE CENTRES

We are associated with many satellite centres in Bangalore, namely the Primary Health Centre, K.S Layout ,Konankunte UPHC,UPHC in NR colony and referral hospital in Hosekarahalli .The dental clinic at the satellite centres treat around 150 patients per week. A full-time dentist and helper is appointed at this center. Post graduates and interns are posted on rotation to this center. This center is fully fledged with equipment to treat oral health problems. All the necessary basic treatment procedures are carried out in this center and this center also acts as a strong referral system for complex dental treatment procedures. This center serves as a service provider for all the people living in and around.


SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Schools are a place of learning where children are available under one roof. Good habits inculcated at early stage are retained lifelong. Hence school health program acts as a channel between health care providers and community. Through school programs our department has been able to deliver quality comprehensive and incremental dental care from time to time. The Ongoing projects are making an effort for stepping towards the success of delivering quality care for the school children and is moving towards achieving the planned initiatives.

Special Camps
As part of the social responsibility the institution conducted screening and treatment camps to population with special needs at Shristhi Special Academy for differently abled, old age homes like Anandashram, Jeevan Sandhya and orphanages focusing on delivery oral healthcare at their doorstep.
