Course Details 

  • The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, faculty of dental sciences of Dayananda Sagar College was established in 1991
  • We have total a intake of 60 undergraduate students.
  • The post graduate department started in the year 2008 with two Post-graduate students per year.
  • Second unit was upgraded to five Post-graduate students per year in 2013.
  • Recognized Post-Graduate Guides: Dr. Hemanth M, Dr. Karthik Kabbur, Dr. Sharmada.
  • Every year 5 Post-Graduate students of different intellectual capabilities join the department, 2 from COMED K, 1 from KCET, and 2 from management quota.


  • Our team of trained teachers, focus on training the third and final year undergraduate students .
  • The curriculum comprises of basics in Orthodontics, biomechanics and overview of different modalities of treatment, preclinical wire bending exercises, ability to diagnose, describe, evaluate, and manage orthodontic problems based on clinical case histories on various patients.
  • In Internship period, the students are given opportunity to diagnose and propose proper treatment plans for a variety of cases. They are provided exposure in treating cases with removable appliances.


  • Post-Graduate training program is planned according to Dental Council of India and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences norms.
  • Test on Basics in Orthodontics by the end of 1st month of their joining is conducted before beginning with preclinical work.
  • Post-Graduate training comprises of 6 months of extensive preclinical wire bending and typhodont exercises.
  • Post-Graduates have to clear the exams to enter into clinics. This is followed by case discussions and management of clinical cases.
  • Academic activities consists of 15 seminars, 15 journal clubs, scientific paper and poster presentations at national conventions, publications in national and international journals.
  • The clinical training program comprises of Diagnosis and Management of a minimum of 45 own cases and 20 transferred orthodontic patients.
  • Post-graduates have to attend Basic sciences, Biostatistics and Bioengineering classes within the DSI campus.
  • A Post-Graduate hand book is given to the Post-Graduate student as they join the department which helps in orientation to the department, and consists of guidelines for preclinical, clinical and academic activities throughout the course.

Phd Program

  • Our department is recognized Ph.D. center by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
  • Recently, Dr. Hemanth M has been recognised as Ph.D. guide by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
  • Ph.D candidates are admitted into the department of orthodontics which is also a research center, with state of art facilities and equipments. Advanced research on a particular topic of interest and relevance is carried out by the candidate under the guidance of a recognized PhD guide. A biannual evaluation process monitors the performance of the candidates.
